A couple was sitting in their car at a Ferndale park when two men approached them, shooting the man in the face.

The Ferndale man is expected to survive, while the shooters are still on the run.

On Thursday night, the man, 20, was parked with his girlfriend at Hazelhurst and Wanda, when he was shot twice in the face.

"The two of them gave us a story they were sitting in their car," said Lt. William Wilson. "They live in the neighborhood, and they were approached by two black males with guns."

According to the 20-year-old girlfriend, one man accidentally shot the victim in his face, lodging a bullet in his head. He has is expected to survive.

"We've had neighbors and people calling concerned," Wilson said. "'Are there crazy people out there with guns?' 'Shooting at the neighborhood robbing the neighborhood?' That is not the case."

At first, the couple told police they were robbed by the two suspects, but after further investigation, police found that wasn't the case.

Police say they discovered the couple had arranged some sort of a secret meeting with the two, when a deal went bad. The shots were fired and the two suspects took off running.

"I can't get into too many details about what we think is surrounding circumstances behind the shooting," Wilson said.

Police are still working with the couple to get the real story. The suspects are still on the loose.
