Man, woman charged after 88-year-old carjacked in Walmart parking lot

The man and woman who were arrested after an 88-year-old woman was carjacked in Livonia are now facing charges.

Jason Malinas, 38, of Sterling Heights, and Jessica St. Clair, 41, of Wayne have been charged with carjacking; unarmed robbery; and five counts of stealing a financial transaction device.

Police say the carjacking happened on September 18 around 4 p.m. in the parking lot of the Walmart on Plymouth Road in Livonia. As the 88-year-old woman was walking to get a shopping cart, it's alleged that Malinas pulled her purse strap, causing her to fall down. Malinas is then accused of taking her purse and keys, and driving away in her 2017 Ford Escape. St. Clair was in the passenger seat.

"He pushed me and I fell flat on my face," Gloria Kevelighan told us. "I hit my head, I was bleeding and everything."

Witnesses saw what happened and told police, and the two were arrested around 11 p.m. that night. Gloria's Ford Escape and purse were located, minus $200 she had in her wallet. She told us she did everything she could to fight off the attacker -- and what she'd do if she ever came face-to-face with him again.

"I'd kill the son of a b****," she said. "The way he pushed me, he didn't care, he was very strong."

Malinas and St. Clair are expected to be arraigned Thursday afternoon.
