Man's body found in burned out house on Detroit's west side

A man's body was found in the basement of a burned out vacant house.

The firefighters found his body inside the house, located on Detroit's west side at 11 a.m.Tuesday morning. Neighbors then called 911 and reported that there were a lot of flies in that house and a strong odor coming from it.

The house is located on Hecla and Marquette, where it was the site of two different fires. According to DFD, the most recent blaze happened July 27, the first fire was in March.

It is unclear how the man's body got into the house, but investigators say it wasn't there at the time of the first fire. The more recent fire was so strong that firefighters were in a defensive mode and were unable to go into the house.

It is unclear how the man died so police are only calling it a death investigation at this time and not a murder investigation.

The house will be demolished once the investigation is completed.
