Meet the woman in the cyr wheel whirling around Detroit

- It looks like a giant hula hoop, but it's actually called a cyr wheel. And, recently on a frigid day in Detroit, FOX 2's Amy Lange spotted it spinning on the sidewalk. Inside was Allison Ottjepka.

"It's for everybody; anybody can do it. You don't have to have any time of athleticism or any sort of gymnast background," she told us. "You start from the beginning and work your way up to advance skills, just like any other dance or sport."

This, from the woman who also does fire hooping.

Ottjepka was ready to teach us how, but  our stomachs will take a pass this time. Ottjepka admitted sometimes even she gets dizzy, but as you practice your body just gets used to the rotations.

She first saw a video on the old time-y circus trick a few years ago then jetted out to California to learn how to do it. Now, she and photographer Gracie Button document their whirling adventures on Instagram at @wherethewheelgoes

"We just do it as an artistic collaboration. It's a lot of fun and we've met a lot of really cool people, it's just  a really fun thing to do in Detroit," Button said. "We've taught some police officers that we've met on the road how to do this. Honestly, we have a great time. It's a great little run away from home thing."

And it turns out when you're running away from home spinning around town in a giant wheel. it definitely gets noticed.

"We get to explore and we get to invite guests to come with us sometimes, so we get other people involved and we meet people along the way and we met you today so it's great," Ottjepka said.

You could book Ottjepka for your holiday parties, or if you're interested in learning how to do that she could teach you, too. You can learn more online here.
