As the clean-up continues down south following Hurricane Harvey, generous metro Detroiters are opening their hearts and wallets to help.

A local construction company loaded up an RV Thursday with supplies to drive down to Texas. VESTA modular will help rebuild in the aftermath of disaster by constructing functional structures - fast.

"They are already built they go together like Legos we have them in yards. This is the right type of product for this situation," said Dan McMurtrie, co-founder of VESTA modular.

The crew is also bringing boxes of brand new clothes donated from an Ann Arbor children’s boutique.

"So it started off with 5 grand then 10, now I'm sending 30 grand worth of stuff down to her," said Rosa Lee, the owner of My Urban Toddler.

Meantime, students from a Clarkston Middle School had been collecting school supplies and now have a way to get them where they are needed. The kids also wrote letters for the victims.

"The students were learning about the hurricane and the victims. They know exactly where it's going and what's needed," said Jessica Hall, a Clarkston School Teacher

The letters along with school supplies and clothing will start the trek south on Monday.  Once there the work of rebuilding will take months and bounce between the ravaged areas in both Texas and Florida.
