Michigan fallen heroes honored in Pontiac

PONTIAC, Mich. (WJBK) - The Oakland County Sheriff's Office honored the courage and sacrifice of the metro-Detroit first responders who lost their lives in the line of duty.

A somber ceremony was held Monday at the Michigan Fallen Heroes Memorial in Pontiac. It’s the only memorial in the state that honors both police and firefighters who gave their lives in the line of duty.

“Today we’re here to thank, frankly in my opinion, anyone who puts on a uniform: police, fire, or military service, EMS... those who are willing to go into harm’s way on behalf of our community, or nation, and fellow human being,” said Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard.
This year, there was a moving tribute to a member of the Fox 2 family: our friend, anchor, reporter, and Milford firefighter, Ron Savage. His name was added to the wall of fallen first responders.

Nine names were added to the wall this year, including Detroit Police Officer Myron Jarret, Detroit Captain Kenneth Stile and Wayne State Police Officer Collin Rose.

The goal is to make sure the sacrifice of all men and women in uniform will never be forgotten.
