Michigan State Police seeking female officers

Michigan State Police are looking for a few good women to join the ranks.

The state police held a recruiting seminar for women on Saturday at Schoolcraft College in Livonia, Mich.

"Sometimes as women we feel overshadowed by males, and we're afraid to ask certain questions and things like that because we don't want to be judged by males," said Michigan State Police Trooper Amy Belanger. "So having a women's recruiting seminar is a great way for women to get together and ask the questions that they really want to know."

Applicants must be at least 21 years old, have no felony convictions, have a good driving record and a stable credit history.

Starting salary at the beginning of the 21-week recruit school is $44,000 annually, with a $7,800 raise after one year.
