Authorities say a woman has been killed and her teenage son hurt after being struck by a car while trying to cross a street in Sterling Heights.

Sterling Heights Police Lt. David Smith says a 47-year-old woman was pushing her 15-year-old son in a wheel chair across Ryan Road, near 14 Mile Road, Monday evening when a red Cadillac hit them and drove away.

The boy was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover.

Smith says a 22-year-old man who lives in the suburb has been arrested in connection with the case, and the car was recovered in Highland Park.

The mother and son were on their way back to the Bristol apartments where they lived from the nearby Dairy Queen.
