National Drug Take Back Day Saturday, October 28

The annual National Drug Take Back Day is happening this year on Saturday, October 28, 2017.

On this day, unused prescription drugs can be turned in to participating law agencies. Dozens are participating in Detroit and the surrounding cities.

Unused prescription drugs should not just be thrown away because they are often retrieved from the trash and abused or illegally sold. Unused drugs flushed down the toilet contaminate the water supply.

Collection will take place from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on October 28. To find a participating agency near you, visit www.dea.gov.

The program has led to the collection of more than 4.1 million pounds of prescription drugs nationally since its start in 2010. More than 11,000 pounds of prescription drugs were collected in Michigan alone last year.
