New Haven school bus driver arrested after crash

MACOMB TWP., Mich. (WJBK) - A New Haven school bus driver was arrested after crashing into a parked car on a residential street, according to the Macomb County Sheriff's Department.

The department says the crash happened in Macomb Township in the 52600 block of Harmony Drive, which is near 24 Mile and Romeo Plank roads. Six children were onboard at the time of the crash though none were injured.

As deputies spoke with the driver, who they say is a 49-year-old woman from Lenox Township, they sensed that she as intoxicated because they say she was slurring her words and was unsteady on her feet. She told deputies that she takes prescription medication earlier and that she "must have blacked out" before to the crash.

Deputies did a few field sobriety tests and arrested her for Operating While Intoxicated. The Macomb County Sheriff's Department says deputies found a pill container in her purse that contained various prescription medications.

The woman was then taken to the hospital for a blood test and to get her wrist checked out, which she said was hurting after the crash.

She has been booked on charges of Operating While Intoxicated, Possession of Analogues and six counts of Child Endangerment. She may face additional charges dependent on the blood analysis and upon a review of the case by the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office. Her name is being withheld until a formal arraignment.

The six children who were on the bus are New Haven Community School students who attend Endeavour Middle School in Ray Township.
