DETROIT (WJBK) - A new mother was killed and a man injured on Monday in a shooting on the city's west side.
Police say they do not have information on suspects or a possible motive.
Investigators were busy for about five hours Monday morning, while they tried to figure who shot up a burgundy Pontiac G-5.
The mother died in the incident and another man also in her car in stable condition. Both were shot multiple times.
"We had a brief interview with him. He gave us some information. We will talk to him again when the situation is more suitable for him," said Officer James McDonald of the Detroit Police Department.
Investigators learned about the shooting just before midnight.
It began south of 8 Mile and the Lodge and ended in a White Castle parking lot near Greenfield.
Officers at the scene say the woman in her 20s was driving on the Service Drive when someone simply pulled up and opened fire. The victim made it a short distance before she crashed into a White Castle employee's car.
"Right now, we've got our IT guy here. He's taking video from White Castle. He's going to BP to get video. Later today, he's going to come here to this liquor store and get video. So once we get this video and we almost see the crime unfold, then we can start putting pieces together," McDonald said.
Evidence markers dotted the area for much of the morning. We're told at least a dozen of them signified actual bullet casings.
They each represent the very beginning of this police investigation that will hopefully end with the arrest of whoever is responsible.
"We're trying to put the puzzle together with the little information we have," McDonald said.
