New snow totals for Southeast Michigan: 1 to 2 inches possible

Winter is coming back to Southeast Michigan...just in time for the Detroit Tigers to start baseball at Comerica Park.

Would it make you feel better if I started with the good news?  By Sunday it will be sunny and almost 70! That's nice. Just think of that as you read the rest of this (or you can just scroll down to the good news section). It's gonna snow - and it's going to be heavy.

Wednesday night is all about the rain. It will pick up in intensity throughout the evening and overnight and it could get loud between 8 and 11 p.m. as thunder and lightning move in.

Showers will then continue, almost consistently, overnight and through the day on Thursday.  A Flood Watch has been issued for Livingston, Lapeer, Genesee and all counties north into the thumb.  Models are predicting between 1-3" of rain is possible (which is not great for already saturated soil)!

Then at 8 p.m., the S word. The the rain will start switching over to snow for all of us - and the accumulations begin.

HOW MUCH SNOW?

Before the snow ends at about 7 a.m. Friday, most of us will see between 1 and 2 inches of wet, heavy snow.  Spots farther north and west will likely see even more: Commerce, for instance, could see as much as 4 inches!

Obviously, this is not a major winter storm - but the timing couldn't be worse. Friday is the Tigers Home Opener and first pitch is currently scheduled for 1:10 PM.

The snow will finally move out but the wind stays. It will first start to pick up Wednesday night and wind chills Thursday will likely stay in the upper 20s as winds blow between 15 and 25 miles per hour. By Friday morning, it could be as low as 19 degrees. Bundle up Tigers fans!

GOOD NEWS!

And then, just as quickly as the cold air arrives, it will be gone.  Weekend temperatures will climb into the 60s.
