UAW, FCA reaches tentative agreement

Down to the wire, a tentative deal was reached and it appears there will be no strike.

On Facebook, a statement read that a proposed tentative agreement was reached between Fiat Chrysler and the United Auto Workers.

Next, the UAW National Chrysler Council will meet in Detroit at 11 a.m. on Friday to vote on the agreement.

"After a lengthy bargaining process, your UAW FCA National Bargaining Committee has secured significant gains in a proposed Tentative Agreement with FCA announced today.

"The bargaining committee unanimously voted to send the proposed Tentative Agreement to local union leaders who make up the union's UAW National Chrysler Council."

Many had hoped a last-minute agreement could be reached before the 11:59 p.m. Wednesday deadline.

A 2/3rds vote turned down a recent tentative deal leading up to Wednesday's deadline.

A two-tier wage, health care, 10 hour work days and jobs to Mexico were the biggest stumbling blocks in negotiations.

A statement was released from Fiat-Chrysler on the tentative agreement:

"FCA US confirms that it has reached a new tentative agreement with the UAW. Because the agreement is subject to UAW member ratification, the Company cannot discuss the specifics of the agreement pending a vote by UAW members."

Directions were posted on the UAW Facebook page from President Dennis Williams if a deal is reached.

"Process - If Proposal is received:
Step 1 - UAW National Bargaining Committee reviews and votes on proposal; if accepted,
Step 2 - UAW National Chrysler Council meets to review proposal and votes on proposal; if accepted,
Step 3 - UAW Local Union committees are presented Tentative Agreement
Step 4 - Informational meetings are held with UAW membership
Step 5 - UAW Membership votes."
