Checking out an old abandoned mental hospital could be pretty scary - and just in time for Halloween.

But Northville police say they have zero tolerance when it comes it comes to trespassing at the old psychiatric hospital on Seven Mile Road.

It has been shut down since 2003 after it was in operation for 50 years. A lot of people are curious if the old psych hospital is haunted.

Police say don't bother trying to find out, adding that it's not safe with asbestos, broken glass, damaged floors and damaged walls.

In the days leading up to Halloween, police are increasing patrols and if you're caught trespassing you'll be arrested and have to pay a $500 fine.

This year alone so far police have arrested 400 people trying to check out the abandoned mental hospital.

A Facebook page dedicated to the Northville psychiatric hospital has newly 4,000 followers and people have posted reviews on the page saying they've been caught trespassing and either received a ticket or warning - telling others it's simply not worth it.

So while the idea may seem enticing to urban explorers, it could be dangerous and get you in trouble with the law.
