Oakland County employees team up to raise money for the family of a fallen hero, honoring trooper Chad Wolf.

Wolf died in a freeway motorcycle accident last month on his way to work, leaving behind a wife and four children.

A casual Friday fund turned into a record-setting $7,000 gift for Wolf's family.

"As a parent when you hear of that happening to anyone who is a father of young children, I think that is just heartbreaking," said Oakland County employee Liz Kidwell.

Wolf was hit on his motorcycle on I-75 and became trapped under the driver's trailer.  He was dragged for miles and later died at the hospital.

"The fact that he was just doing his job as a police officer I think that in itself made it that more horrible," Kidwell said.

"Just to think it could be us at that funeral saying goodbye to our friends," said Oakland County employee Pam Barrow.

Wolf and his wife, Erin has four young children with the oldest just 12 years old.

"When lost my boy three years ago, he had three kids," said Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson. "I know what those kids are going through. So I know what these four are going to go through."

Hitting the hearts of so many, Oakland County employees say they felt compelled to help and Michigan State Police say the Wolf family is overwhelmed with the support.

"It makes my heart feel so glad that there was such an outpouring from my fellow employees for this sad situation," said Oakland County employee Fiona Brenner.

Michigan State Police Lt. Michael Shaw said that support has also come from out of state.

"We had two kids in Illinois whose father was a police officer," he said. "So they went out there and had a lemonade stand and raised $2,000 and sent it to Erin with a little note that said thank you for your service."

While it's been just over a month since Wolf was killed, Michigan State Police say no charges have been filed yet. Investigators are still waiting on toxicology results of the driver to come back.

They expect their investigation to be completed in about a week.
