Off-duty Roseville cop pulled over on DUI suspicion charged with reckless driving

An off-duty Roseville officer was charged with reckless driving in what was originally a drunk driving investigation.

Ferndale police say in a release that 40-year-old David Raymer of Macomb Township was arrested after an incident around 12:30 a.m. Nov. 9.

Roseville Police Chief James Berlin says Raymer was pulled over by a Ferndale officer, suspected of driving drunk, after he was seen driving the wrong direction down Woodward.

Once the Ferndale officer learned the suspect he pulled over was a Roseville officer, he called his supervisor who ordered the intoxicated Roseville officer and his passenger be brought to the Ferndale Police Department and then driven home.

The incident wasn't discovered until another officer came forward, and both departments launched internal investigations.

Raymer was arraigned at 11 a.m. at the Ferndale 43rd District Court on a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving. He pleaded not guilty and was released on a $1,500 personal bond.

He is scheduled to return to court Jan. 16.
