Officers hit by suspected drunk driver on Detroit's east side

DETROIT (WJBK) - Police are investigating after two officers were injured in a car crash on Detroit's east side early Friday morning. The crash involves a suspected drunk driver. 

Police say a scout car was hit when the driver of a Chevy HHR went through a stop sign. The accident happened at Balfour and Moross roads. 

Police say the scout car had on its lights and sirens, and was responding to a home invasion when it was struck. 

Police say both officers got cuts and abrasions to the face and were taken to the hospital in stable condition. They're expected to be okay. 

The driver of the Chevy HHR, a 33-year-old man, was taken to the hospital in temporary serious condition. Police didn't describe his injuries, but say he's been charged with an OWI. 

After the crash, a man who says he was a passenger in the HHR told FOX 2's Robin Murdoch a different story of how the accident happened. 

Sidney Donner says their car didn't blow through the stop sign, and that the patrol car didn't have its lights and sirens on until the last second, giving them very little time to react. Donner says his brother was driving the HHR, and that their family has reached out to an attorney. 

The accident happened around 2:30 a.m. Friday.
