Once homeless, mom who lost daughter to cancer gets fresh start

A single mother is still in mourning after losing a little girl to cancer just a few weeks ago.

But on Wednesday there was help and hope after a Detroit area charity stepped up to help the family with a fresh start.

Filled with overwhelming emotions after she walked into her new home, a single mom  Tywanda Terry is finally getting the break she needed.

"I am so blessed, it isn't anyone but God who did this for me," she said. "If you don't believe in God, I don't know what to tell you."

Her daughter Tatiana passed away at the age of 9 from lymphoma, T-cell cancer.

She then ended up living in a homeless shelter for the second time since 2000.

Despite all her hardship, she kept her spirits up.

Terry introduced her other 8-year-old daughter who is deaf.

"I talk for her," she said. "This is a living testimony for me. If it wasn't for me having my daughter when my other daughter passed away, I don't know."

Terry is you getting on her feet. She's been living in her current place since November

But Terry and her daughter did not have much of anything in their home until Humble Designs stepped in to help. Humble Design did renovations and furnished the house.

The lesson here is to never give up no matter how tough it gets.

"It's not over," Terry said. "When you think you don't have nobody you do."

Now Humble Designs is helping the 39-year-old mom get her GED and go to culinary school.
