The kids will soon start going back to school and some already have.

At FOX 2 we want all the kids to have the supplies they need for all the children in need. On Friday the effort was underway to stuff a school bus.

Outside Kroger Marketplace in Royal Oak, Operation Backpack by Volunteers of America for Michigan has the goal of helping 10,000 homeless children.

Teacher Mary Waller was there and spoke about how important the effort is.

"We want to make sure our students are ready to hit the ground running in September and ready to learn," she said. "Students who are facing homelessness don't always know where they will get their next meal. School supplies are on thing we can do to help them start the year strong."

Today's drive is over, but Krogers is selling school supply kits at all locations for just $7. Pick one up, drop it in the bin at the front of the store.
