WEB UPDATE: Hamramck has resolved the water problem the city announced, as of 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.

It is pretty tough to host Thanksgiving dinner when you have no water - which is why some Hamtramck residents are changing holiday plans.

Arnetta Gaston's family has been without water since Sunday - so she's moving Thanksgiving dinner to her son's house in Troy. There is no way she can host it there with no water.

"My son said 'No mom come to my house and cook here.'  I said I'll just take one for the team and pack it all up and go," she said. "I'll never forget this Thanksgiving - that's for sure."

Arnetta says she has to laugh to keep from crying - she keeps calling the city of Hamtramck to find out what's going on at Oliver Street - and she's not getting any answers.

"I'm like what do you mean you don't know? We've been without water since Sunday evening and she's like - they're working on it," Arnetta said. "And I said Thanksgiving is coming up - what are we supposed to do. And she's like, we're working on it."

It was the same response FOX 2 received at the water department but no explanation as to what's wrong or when it will be fixed - which doesn't do Arnetta, her husband or her two little boys any good - they have to purchase bottled water to drink, cook, bathe, brush their teeth - and even use the bathroom...

"I was able to get these from my job which was a Godsend to fill up with water and pour it in the back of the toilet to flush," she said. "I just hope it doesn't drag out for a long time because I mean it's been three days too long."

Even so - on this holiday to remember - Arnetta's still giving thanks.

"It makes you put in perspective what's important and what's not and water is something you need," she said. "I'm just thankful I have lights - a roof over my head, food.

"I'm thankful just to have life."

The city of Hamtramck responded to FOX 2 saying that the source of the problem was found at a water main, which is undergoing repairs.
