PAWS in the D hosted an animal welfare winter outreach event in Detroit Saturday.

The event handed out free dog food, cat food and straw to pet owners in need on a first-come, first-served basis.

They also provided educational material on everyday pet care, as well as information on organizations that provide animal care to those in need or animals at risk in the City of Detroit.

"This is like an introduction event where we're just trying to let people know who we are and what services we provide to the community," organizer Jamie Wilkins said.

Generous support is provided by Premier Pet Supply, Schettenhelm Farm, angel donors, and volunteers.

PAWS in the D will host the second winter outreach event on Feburary 24th from 10am-2pm at Christ the King Catholic Church.
