Pistons owner Tom Gores spoke before Friday's season-opener about reports of the team returning to Detroit.

Gores said that if the franchise were to move downtown, "it's going to be soon," FOX 2's Jennifer Hammond reports.

"We're close, we're serious about making this move," Gores said, adding that if the move is to be finalized it would begin with next season. "We're going to make an impact wherever we are. We don't have a deal, we are talking serious."

Gores would not go into the details that need to be finalized and added that it was always his vision to "get the team better."

Gores also spoke about the impact leaving Oakland County and The Palace of Auburn Hills would have.

"We have to be really mindful of this community in Auburn Hills," he said.

The Pistons last played in Detroit from 1961 to 1978 at Cobo Hall.
