Police arrest second suspect in shooting death of Detroit mom

Erica Garner was killed waiting for her son to get out of basketball practice on the east side of Detroit. 

Police in Detroit say they have arrested a second suspect wanted in the shooting death of a mom as she was picking up her son from basketball practice.

Rayvon Smith, was arrested in the 13800 block of Collingham, police said. Smith is the second suspect in custody for the shooting death of 42-year-old Erica Garner as she was picking up her 11-year-old son from basketball pracitce on Wednesday.

Smith was waiting at E. 8 Mile and Sunset in Detroit when someone approached her and shot her in the head. Her son was dropped off by a school bus from an athletic event to the Light Guard Armory and saw the suspect standing near his mother's car. She drove off with her son and stopped a short distance away. She then asked a passerby to call 911 before collapsing.

17-year-old Ralph Anthony Marshall was arrested at the scene and has since been charged with murder. Police announced on Thursday that they were searching for a second suspect, an 18-year-old man and released a picture but not a name.

Police have not said if Smith is the second suspect identified on Thursday.
