Police arrest suspect in freeway overpass standoff

UPDATE: The suspect was pulled from the overpass after police cut through the fence, and arrested.






The shirtless man who had fled police, was handcuffed at about 6:10 p.m. and receiving medical attention.

At about 5:30, the suspect who fled police had been threatening to jump off the freeway overpass at the Davison overpass east of Woodward and west of John R. according to Michigan State Police. 

The suspect was wanted for fleeing and eluding police.

By 6:25 p.m. the Davison was reopened for traffic at 6:25 p.m.

Police had directed multiple semi-trucks in the area to park underneath the bridge as a safety precaution.

Workers cut through the freeway fence with torches to get to the shirtless man who at one point was hiding behind the freeway sign.

Fire Department ladder trucks were used as well as spotlights during the standoff.
