DETROIT (WJBK) - Wayne State students are on edge after a young woman and her father become victims of a violent robbery attempt.
Students on the campus were put on edge after they received an alert at 10 p.m. Wednesday night.
A 22-year-old woman was walking with her father when someone came up to them demanding money. The woman told police she was then thrown to the ground and punched in the face, but her father pushed the man off of her.
The alleged attack took place on Canfield just east of Cass Avenue near Wayne State. Police say after the attack the suspect ran down an alley but wasn't seen from again.
The victim also cut her hand, possibly from a knife the suspect may have had. Police came out to investigate but couldn't find the suspect.
As soon as Wayne student officials were notified an email alert went out to students. Some said they appreciate the warnings.
Police continue to investigate the alleged assault looking for any witnesses or suspects.
"It's a little surprising and definitely alarming," said student Micalea Muzzarelli. "Since I've been here I have taken some personal precautions like pepper spray."
"It's kind of terrifying," said student Ramaiz Imran. "But I'm impressed by WSU police you can them for help and get a ride."
