Several renters are without a place to live tonight after a car plows into a Detroit apartment building early Sunday morning.

Several units were destroyed and police are now looking for the driver of that car.

One of the tenants injured was an elderly man in a wheelchair; he was in his bed when a car smashed through his bedroom.

Neighbors say his son had to pull the man from the debris to safety. He is currently in the hospital, but expected to be okay.

"When we came outside we approached the front of the building, that's when we seen a car with the holes in the wall," neighbor Kathy Perizon said.

A black Grand AM hit the one story apartment building Sunday morning off Plymouth and Greenview street on Detroit's west side.

"I was just praying nobody died in the accident and that everybody was safe," Perizon said.

Detroit police say there were three women in the car when they crashed. The female driver of that car was picked up by another car but police are unclear on the cause of the crash.

"Whoever did it, can you turn yourself in so you can take justice for what you did, somebody could have died in this, what if it was one of your family members," Perizon said.
