Police looking for Escalade after fatal gas station shooting

DETROIT (WJBK) - Police are asking for the public's help identifying a vehicle that they believe was at the scene of a fatal shooting in Detroit late Sunday night.

The shooting happened at a gas station at Warren Avenue and Southfield Road around 11:45 p.m. A 26-year-old man had been shot in the head.

Police say it  began when the victim got into an argument with some men who were inside a 2015 to 2016 model black Escalade. At one point the suspects started shooting,at the victim who was in a RAM pick up truck. He was hit as he tried to drive away.

That's when investigators say he crashed into the canopy of another gas station directly across the street. The passenger in the victim's truck was also shot in the foot and is expected to be okay.

Once word began to spread about the deadly shooting family and friends of the victim rushed to the area. Police had to call in extra help to keep the large crowd under control.

One man who was in the area at the time of the shooting says he heard at least five shots.

"I was in the gas station getting some stuff when I heard the shooting and a crash," says Deon Kelly. "I came out side I saw an Arabic man sitting down, he said, 'Go see; go see,' and I saw that a man in a truck had been shot a couple of times."

The victims have not yet been named by police.

Police are searching for at least two people who were inside the black Escalade at the time of the shooting. They have a partial plate of DME 9.
