Police: Missing 74-year-old woman died in car accident

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) - A woman who had been reported missing when she didn't show up for work died in a car accident last week, police say.

When 74-year-old Barbara Williams didn't show up for work at the General Motors Technical Center in Warren, her employer contacted her brother. Detroit police then put out a missing person's report over the weekend.

A few days later, Detroit police and Southfield police now confirm that the missing woman had died in a car accident in Southfield on Monday, September 5.

The accident happened at 10 Mile and Lahser roads after a car went through a red light. That car hit another car and pushed into a nearby gas station parking lot, where it hit a third car.  The collision came close to hitting a gas pump, which might've caused an explosion.

It's unclear at this time which car Williams was in. 

She died on the way to the hospital. One other person suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crash. 

It's also unclear at this time if police had contacted Williams' family about her death.
