Police are stepping up patrols around West Hills Middle School in Bloomfield Hills. looking for a man spotted lurking in the area getting too close to the kids.

Parents are on high alert after hearing a bus driver spotted a man at the school possibly taking pictures of students Thursday afternoon.

When school officials asked what he was doing there, the man gave a vague answer before leaving.

Although the school is located in Bloomfield Hills, the West Bloomfield police department is handling the investigation, and working with the school to get the word out to parents.

"It's very concerning," said parent Barbara Sombro. "I'm glad to see the school is very proactive. There was police presence out here this morning, it made me feel a little bit more comfortable. But it is concerning. We want our kids to be safe."

The school notified parents by sending a letter to let them know what happened and to be on the lookout.

"It was basically a description of the gentleman they saw him in, that they were taking necessary actions to make sure our kids were safe," said Sombro.

The police description was that a man appears be in his 20s, dark complexion, about 5-feet 10 inches, weighing 180 pounds with a beard, about four or five days old.

He was last seen wearing a navy blue hat, a dark colored jacket and sweat pants.

Police say they are adding an extra patrol in the area where West Hills Middle School is located, and they're asking anyone sees someone fitting that description to give them a call.
