Police searching for carjacker, armed 7-11 robber

A suspect is on the run after a bold robbery of a 7-Eleven, shoving a gun in the clerk's face and stealing money and cigarettes.

He fired one shot, but no one was hurt. Police say this hold-up was just part of a larger crime spree.

It included carjacking, an armed robbery, and a car chase all happened in about an hour - and the suspect is still on the run.  

It all started Wednesday, at about 2 a.m. at the BP gas station on Harper and Cadieux on Detroit's east side.

"The victim was approached by a lone black male armed with a weapon," said Sgt. Jonathan Parnell, Detroit police. "He asked for cigarettes. The victim said he didn't have a cigarette. The next thing you know, the black male produced a weapon and demanded the victim's vehicle."

Video cameras capture the suspect, the cops describe in his early 20s and approximately 6 feet tall, wearing a dark knit cap, a North Face jacket, light gray pants and white tennis shoes.  He then steals the victim's car and it drives off.

The suspect next went to a 7-Eleven in Roseville on Masonic and Little Mack, where another crime took place.

"Once he entered, he walked behind the counter, where the employee was located, he produced a handgun," said Roseville Deputy Chief Donald Glandon. "He pointed the firearm at a customer as well as the employee."

Again video cameras captured the crime, but this time a gun shot was fired hitting a cigarette display, and just missed hitting the 7-Eleven employee.

"He demanded the employee open the cash register," Glandon said. "The employee complied with the demands and the suspect made off with an undetermined amount of cash."

And then he casually steals the cigarettes he wanted and walks out the door. 

Roseville police quickly pursue the stolen 2002 tan GMC Jimmy at high speeds west on I-94. The vehicle's Michigan license plate is DAK 5991.

Officers gave up the chase at I-94 and Conner. He is still at large.
