Police update community on Rose Twp. jogger's homicide

ROSE TWP, Mich. (WJBK) - Mystery still surrounds the death of a woman who was shot while jogging in northern Oakland County. It's been a month-and-a-half since 31-year-old Alexandra Brueger was killed, and still no arrest.

Police updated the Rose Township community on the case on Wednesday evening.

Specifically, it's been 46 days and counting.

And as that number grows, so does concern in a small north Oakland County community.

Brueger was shot and killed during her daily jog on Fish Lake Road. Since then, 75 tips on the case have come into police.

No one has been ruled out as a suspect, and the best lead they have is a suspicious white car.

Lt. Mike Shaw of the Michigan State Police spoke at a board meeting about the progress in the case.

"Usually in these type of crimes, somebody comes forward and says, 'Yes that was me. I just happened to be driving down the road, I didn't see anything,' or else that turns out to be the suspect," Shaw said, adding that no one has yet said it was them. "That car is something we're particularly concerned about."

As the people of the town can attest, people are searching for that car.

"I got pulled over. A little scary to see lights in the mirror. It's been a while. She came up very suspicious and very cautious, asked me about the car, questions, ran my plate," a concerned resident said.

He said after it was over, he asked what he was pulled over for and police told them they were checking for everything.

Police say people in the community have good reason to be cautious. They can't say that the shooting wasn't random.

"I don't want to say that it's time to work, I just say that it's time to be a little bit careful," Shaw said.

With that in mind, they're lifting the stakes to get the crime solved. They're offering a $7,500 reward to entice people to give up information.

"Not everybody gives up a tip just because we ask for it," Shaw said.
