Police: woman causes 2 crashes while fleeing

A mother of three has been charged after causing two separate car crashes while fleeing police, a spokesperson with the Livonia Police Department says.

Ashley Dorsey, 27, was pulled over earlier this week at 8 Mile and Newburgh for a traffic stop. When the officer returned to his scout car to investigate, police say Dorsey took off down Newburgh. Officers followed her for about a half a mile before then ended the pursuit.

Dorsey continued to speed down Newburgh they say and caused a traffic crash at 7 Mile Road. She got out of the car, leaving her three minor children alone in the vehicle.

Police say she then hopped in an empty car and took off. The car was empty because the driver had gotten out of the car to assist with the crash police say Dorsey had just caused.

Dorsey took off in that car down 7 Mile Road, and officers followed for a brief period of time before calling off the chase again. Dorsey drove about two miles until she caused another crash at Farmington Road.

Officers caught up with her there and were able to take her into custody.

Dorsey has been charged with 2 counts of fleeing police officers, 2 counts of assaulting/resisting/obstructing police officers and four other charges, including child abuse in the third degree.

Her bond has been set at $500,000 and she is due back in court on March 3.
