(WJBK) - Thousands of local teens will have the opportunity to gain valuable job experience over the summer. Mayor Mike Duggan announced Tuesday that the city plans to roll out an expanded youth job program this year.
In 2015, 11,000 kids applied and nearly 6,000 of them were put to work. The goal this year is get 8,000 youth ages 14-24 to work this summer.
Starting today, Detroit youth interested in applying for a summer job this year, can apply at www.GDYT.org. Businesses interested in providing summer work experiences for Detroit youth also can register at the GDYT website.
There are also some job fairs happening this weeke.d One is at Eastlake Baptist Church at 12400 E. Jefferson. The other is at Triumph Church at 2760 Grand Blvd. Both fairs are from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016.
