Rally held in Royal Oak to support police officers

Many came together in Royal Oak on Saturday to show their support for the men and women in blue.

Local businesses sponsored the event called Back the Badge as a show of appreciation.

The event was not affiliated with any political organization or other group.

It was held in response to the negative stories regarding police officers in recent months.

"Their job is an incredibly tough one," said Bill Kostrzewa, who attended the rally. "They're on the line all the time, and I would just say God bless them."

One of the organizers points out that about one quarter of Americans have some sort of contact with a police officer every year.

"It's a great to show our support to the law enforcement, again, who put their lives on the line for us each and every day and keep us safe," said Marianne Hines, event attendee. "I'm here to support them."

Of those -- 40 percent ask for assistance.
