Police are trying to crack a case of car break-ins and robberies in Royal Oak.
The first incident was reported last Saturday afternoon at Total Soccer on Lexington.
"We got a report of one car break-in, and the officer responded to that break-in," said Lt. Keith Spencer, Royal Oak police. "And while he was there dealing with that incident, two other people approached him to let him know that they had also had cars broken into."
Around the same time, police got another call.
"We had another break-in that was reported down by the zoo that appeared to be similar," Spencer said. "Broken car window."
On Monday, another break in was reported on North Gainsborough, a day later, another on Sixth Street.
In four of these cases the thieves smashed through a window, unlocked the car, and then took off with whatever valuables they could find. Police say the crooks quickly took everything they could get their hands on, from purses and wallets to even small amounts of change, and water bottles.
"Obviously you want to keep your car doors locked, windows rolled up," Spencer said. "And if you do leave valuable items inside your vehicle, try to conceal them, or hide them, or put them away so they're not easily visible."
At this time police are still working to determine who did this and whether or not all the break-ins are connected.
"Right now, not a lot of details we can release to you folks so far," Spencer said.
