A car has been pulled from the Detroit River near Belle Isle but police are still searching for the woman who was driving the car.

Witnesses told police the female driver "plunged" her vehicle into the river near the Belle Isle Fountain at about 8:30 a.m. Sunday. As of Monday afternoon, she is still missing.

Original reports from police that first responders found that the driver and the car were submerged near the Canadian side of the river were inaccurate. The woman was not inside the car and had not been recovered as of Monday afternoon.

Tire tracks seen coming off the island, Michigan State Police said. Troopers are working to determine if they were from the woman's vehicle.

Police initially said the woman was still in the car and they were working it as a 'recovery'. Police have now said they pulled the car from the river but the woman was not inside the vehicle.
