A cat was found tortured in Dearborn and the rope around its neck needed to be surgically removed.

The cat, named Mustang, is on the mend after being found tied to a picker bush in front of the Ford Motor Co. world headquarters building on Michigan Avenue.

Employees heard the cat crying and found it Monday morning.

"An animal control officer went out and it was found tied to some of the bushes and tangled up in there," said Elaine Green, Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit. "Plus the rope was tied very tightly around the kitty's neck."

Green said the employees heard the cat crying for days.

"You can see the wound on the neck all the way around," Green said. "As a result, the skin started to grow out over the rope. It was open, so flies laid eggs which caused maggots."

Doctors from Vet Select Animal Hospital had to surgically remove the rope. An office worker from the hospital is set to adopt him but it will take weeks for Mustang to recover.

In the meantime, Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest that leads to prosecution of the person responsible. After this report aired, anonymous donors added to that reward to make it $5,000.

If you know who tied the rope around Stallion's neck call the Dearborn Animal Shelter at (313) 943-2697.
