Royal Oak Police investigate suspicious car fires

Royal Oak Police are investigating three suspicious car fires that happened within a four block radius.

The fires all occurred between Monday, November 23 and Thursday, November 26. Initial investigation shows each fire originated in the passenger compartment of the vehicles.

On Monday, fire fighters and police officers responded to two separate fires. The first was in the 900 block of Whitcomb shortly after 3 a.m. The second fire was on the 1100 block of Bauman just before 3:30 a.m.

In both of these fires, the vehicles were parked on the street. The fires were both extinguished quickly with no injuries.

The third fire happened early Thanksgiving morning, just after 2:30 a.m. in the 600 block of Millard. The vehicle, which was parked in the driveway, was fully engulfed by the time crews arrived on the scene.

Officers on the scene quickly evacuated the residents of the home and directed them to a safe area. The heat from the flames damages the vinyl siding on the home, but no one was injured.
