4,500 without power as DTE battles outages from wind

DTE Energy reports that about 4,500 are without power from Thursday's high winds.

As many as 12,000 lost power earlier in the day, but multiple crews including some from neighboring states on standby have hit the streets en masse.

The winds were blowing hard Thursday, gusting up to 50 to 60 MPH. It's causing some scattered power outages that DTE says will climb throughout the day.

The High Wind Warning is in effect until 10 pm tonight for all of SE Michigan. A strong Low pressure system with a trailing cold front will bring strong southwesterly winds with sustained speeds of 25-30 mph. However, there will also be frequent gusts up around 50-60 mph.

The impact of strong winds can be power outages, trees down, flight delays and property damage. Some lakeshore flooding in and around Anchor Bay (Lake St. Clair) is possible.

A DTE spokesperson said that the outages are scattered throughout the area but they expect that number to climb quickly.
