School investigates possible sex assault of kindergartner at school

A disturbing story of a possible sex assault inside an elementary school.

The alleged victim is a kindergartner.

"He is traumatized to go to school," said Jacquetta Hampton.

Hampton says her 5-year-old son had a devastating experience at the place he should've felt safe. His elementary school in western Wayne County.

FOX 2 is not naming the school for domestic safety concerns. Hampton says a student, possibly two of them, sexually assaulted her son.

"I was just asking him how was your day and he came out with 'A little boy at school touched my butt and my area,' and I said what," Hampton said.

Hampton says the assault took place when her son's teacher dropped him off at the bathroom and then left taking the rest of the class to another area inside the school.

That's when Hampton says two other boys came in. It's unclear if one or both or just were involved in what happened next.

"The little boys or boys came in there and pulled his pants down and pulled their pants down and got on top of his butt and was touching his front area and kissing him in his mouth," Hampton said.

The school district launched an internal investigation the same day of the alleged incident and gave its findings to police and child protective services.

The police department says it did not speak with the other child or children involved and its investigation is ongoing.

Jacquetta is concerned their efforts may be undermined. The alleged assault happened Sept 13th. Investigators say they do not interview young sex assault victims per department procedure.

Police did not schedule a meeting with the organization that does, until Thursday which was more than two weeks later.

"It should've been interviewed by them immediately after because kids' brains, they forget things," Hampton said.

Jacquetta says her son is now attending another school and seeing a therapist. She considering taking legal action against the school district.

"I feel like the children or the child that did this to my son, something is going on within their home or someone that they're around for them to come to school and do this to another child," she said. "So I want that family or whoever that child is around, to be investigated."

The school district says it's been in constant contact with Jacquetta Hampton and is cooperating with police. Detectives say they cannot share too many details of the case because they're not yet far along in the investigation.
