About 14K still without power after round of storms

Power lines were reported down around metro Detroit.

About 36,000 DTE Energy customers are without power in the FOX 2 viewing area. BY 8:30 p.m. that number was reduced to 24,000.

Crews are out  responding now, according to DTE.

Some scattered damage has been reported. Power lines were reported down on top of a house in the 3100 block of Bellevue.

At 12 Mile and Orchard Lake In Farmington Hills, power lines were down in the middle of the intersection.

Lines were also down in the 19300 block of Avon in Detroit, pole to pole.

Traffic lights have been reported out at 9 Mile and Greenfield and Southfield Road between 10 and 11 mile. No signals are working.

A power line fell on top of a minivan and actually melted the vehicle's tires. That storm slammed a Redford neighborhood where lighting struck at least one home.

"Lightning struck by my head and hit porch light which was off, and up she went," said the witness. "It sounded like bombs over Baghdad.”

The siding at the house on Poinciana partially melted from the intense flames caused by the fire.

The resident says he was home with his girlfriend's daughter when the storm came through.

  This resident says she also can't believe all the damage in her Redford community.

"We came home and it looked like a war zone." Deborah Dobbs. "A lot of trees are down and we have no electricity. We're all doing major cleanup."

Redford Police say several trees and wires were knocked down because of the storm. DTE Energy has been notified and they are taking care of the problem.

This resident says he's just happy to be alive.

"Luckily no one was hurt," the witness said.
