Sheriff trying to identify man's body found in garbage bag in mid-Michigan

SEVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Authorities in mid Michigan are working to identify the body of a man found by hunters in a large plastic bag over the weekend.

The Gratiot County sheriff's office  says an autopsy revealed the man found Sunday in a ditch in Seville Township was about 60 to 70 years old. Sheriff Doug Wright tells the Morning Sun of Mount Pleasant the death is being investigated as a homicide.

The sheriff's office released photos of two distinctive tattoos on Monday on Facebook. 

According to the Facebook post, the hunters found the bag around 10:30 Sunday morning and cut it open. When they found the body, they immediately called 911. 

Investigators say the man had distinctive tattoos of an eagle on his right shoulder and a skull wearing a cowboy hat and handkerchief on his left shoulder. The skull is bordered by the names of the states Texas, Florida, and Michigan as well as chain links.

He appeared to have suffered a recent injury to his left hand, since two fingers were taped together.

Seville Township is near Alma, about 105 miles northwest of Detroit.
