Sheriff's deputy injured in motorcycle accident

The Oakland County Sheriff's Department says one of their deputies was injured in a motorcycle accident Wednesday morning.

The accident happened in Commerce Township at Newton and Richardson roads, just north of Walled Lake Central High School.

We're told a SUB failed to yield and turned left in front of the deputy and the deputy had to avoid hitting the SUV by laying his motorcycle down in the intersection, which caused him to be ejected from the motorcycle.

We're told the driver of the SUV did stop and help the deputy. The deputy suffered injuries to his eye, face, leg and hands. He's at the hospital listed in serious but stable condition.

The sheriff's office says the deputy is 46 years old and a 20-year police veteran.

The crash is under investigation.
