Police are searching for a suspect after one person was hurt in a shootout at a Coney Island restaurant overnight in Midtown.

The gunshots rang out around 2:30 a.m. inside Detroit One Coney Island on Woodward Avenue, just south of Mack Avenue. We're told a 28-year-old man was shot twice in the thigh, and is hospitalized right now in temporary serious condition.

Police say the incident may have started at a nearby club, when a man tried to get a woman's phone number.

The group for whatever reason ended up at the restaurant. Police are looking into if maybe the man followed the woman.

We're told the shooting suspect then started disrespecting the woman and others started to intervene, and an argument broke out. That's when the shots were fired and the shootout broke out between the suspect and a friend of the woman.

"When the shots went off, everyone went to the floor ducking. Obviously even the customers went in the back of the kitchen. It was crazy. We went in the back. It was chaos in here, that's for sure,"
says Martin Dedvukaj, the son of the restaurant owner.

The suspect was able to get away from the restaurant and is still on the run. Police have images of him on surveillance video. They describe him as a light-skinned black male, between 5 feet 11 inches tall to 6 feet tall. He weighs around 220 lbs. and has dreadlocks and a goatee. He was wearing a black T-shirt, black and white shorts and has a rosarie around his neck. He also shot with his left hand.

If you recognize the shooter or know anything more about what happened, you're asked to contact Detroit Police.
