Shootout at Family Dollar after attempted armed robbery on Detroit's west side

Detroit Police say an assistant manager was shot at a Detroit Family Dollar was shot during an attempted robbery.

According to Detroit Police, the clerk was shot during the attempted robbery at the Family Dollar in the 12600 block of Dexter just before 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

Police say the armed suspect walked in with plans to rob the store but the assistant manager, a CPL holder, pulled out his own weapon.

According to the police, the suspect and employee then got into a shootout at the store. The employee was shot in the stomach and taken to a nearby hospital. The suspect was able to escape.

The assistant manager is currently listed in critical condition.

Police do not have a suspect description at this time and working to get one.
