Shopper captures Twelve Oaks Mall robbery on video

New video has surfaced of the actual smash-and-grab crime at Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi this weekend.

Police are still looking for two suspects who sent the mall into a giant chaotic scene Saturday afternoon.

The video shows the mall just before it went into a full lockdown and the suspect can be seen on the right.

He breaks the jewelry counter glass at Tapper's jewelry store on the mall's second level.

A customer hears the glass breaking and begins to shoot cell phone video.

The suspect runs to exit Tapper's, but the store door is closed. He then can be heard trying to escape by opening the door as an employee keeps closing it.

One of the suspects squeezes out the door as his arm is held by someone at the wrist.

The suspect finally escapes and runs down the stairs to the first floor.

He puts a hat on as heads for the exit.

As he runs off either police or security orders a group of people face down on the floor.

The scene after the robbery was chaotic but it was determined the people held momentarily had nothing to do with the crime.

The mall then went into a full lockdown, as Novi police surrounded and swarmed Twelve Oaks Mall.

Some witnesses heard Tapper's door banging open and closed mistakenly believed they were hearing gunshots, but Novi investigators relying on employees, witnesses and mall surveillance video determined no guns were used in the smash and grab.

They retained the hammer on the carpet as a key piece of evidence. The smashed glass jewelry cases were visible from the mall corridor.

FOX 2 viewer David Ortiega shot that cell phone video of the actual crime in progess and one of the suspects' escape.

Police are looking for two guys. It's believed they made off with a high end watch.
