Shots fired from SUV hit 2 people at block party on Detroit's east side

- Two people are shot at a block party on Detroit's east side Wednesday night.

A 35-year-old woman was grazed in the head and a 19-year-old man was shot in the leg but are expected to recover.

About three-dozen people were gathered on Ashland Street when a black SUV rolled up and someone opened fire with a rifle into the crowd at about 8 p.m.

"With the type of weapon used and the amount of shots fired, we are very lucky we didn't have more casualties than we did," Detroit Police Capt. Darin Szilagy said. "Our victims were both transported to a local hospital. Their wounds seem like they are going to recover."

Police plan on looking at nearby surveillance cameras to try and get a better look at that suspects in the SUV.
