A man was cleaning trash along an abandoned building and saw a dead body inside on Detroit's east side Monday.

The man who made the gruesome discovery didn't want to talk on camera. His wife called 911 to report his discovery.

He and his wife live kitty-corner from the abandoned building on the corner of E. Davison and Healy.

A small restaurant called Ham Palace is next door.

"It's terrible," said Ham Palace customer Robert Smith. "So close to home. You wouldn't expect that."

"We were shocked because it's so close to our establishment,' said Ann Gjokaj, Ham Palace.

An area full of abandoned homes and buildings this diner is one of the few places still open for business.

Police and fire fighters on the scene trying to figure out how to remove the human remains from the structurally unsafe building.

The medical examiner will determine the cause of death and whether foul play was involved.
