As Detroit Metro Airport works to recover from icy weather conditions, travelers are doing their best to deal with flight cancellations and delays.

"I hope I will get home tomorrow," said Mustafa Cavus. "(I've waited) almost 30 hours."

Cavus is still waiting to get on a plane so he can head home to Amsterdam.

"You can't do anything so you have to wait," Cavus said.

At 8 p.m. on Tuesday all taxiways and runways at Detroit Metro Airport were shut down because of the snow and icy weather.

During the shutdown crews continued their efforts to clear the snow and ice, but officials say the constant icy snowfall diluted de-icing fluid causing it to not work.

So the airport remained closed overnight and Cavus made a spot inside the airport his bed.

"My manager said go get a hotel but I stayed here," he said.

After being shut down for 14 hours, on Wednesday morning the airport reopened at 10 a.m.

Officials say as the temperatures went up, taxiways and runways started to reopen which allowed some flights to get back in motion.

But after their flight was cancelled Tuesday evening, Nicholas Bate says he and his girlfriend still continued to have problems on Wednesday morning as they tried to get home to Seattle.

"They pushed it back to 8:20 a.m. and then to 11:30 a.m. and then to just after noon," Bate said. "It went to 2:30 now it's like 3:00 or 4:30."

Airport officials say the fourth and final primary runway reopened at 12:15 Wednesday afternoon.

Officials say it is best to go online to check your flight before arriving at the airport.
