Son of Rep. John Conyers found safe in Texas

Houston police say longtime U.S. Rep. John Conyers' youngest son, who was reported missing earlier this week, has been found safe.

Police say 21-year-old Carl Conyers was found safe early Friday morning in the Houston area.

Carl became the subject of a police search after he was last seen on Tuesday by his roommate. Carl attends the University of Houston.

The Houston Police Department was working with the FBI, Secret Service and a private search group in efforts to locate Carl. Carl's mother, Monica Conyers, flew down to Houston Thursday to join the search.

Details of his brief disappearance were not immediately made known.

Carl's father, U.S. Rep. John Conyers, serves Michigan's 13th congressional district, which encompasses the Detroit metro area. The 87-year-old is the longest-serving member of the House. First elected in 1964, Conyers won his 27th term last week.

A spokesperson for the congressman released the following statement:

"Rep. Conyers has been in touch with his family and is happy his son is safe and uninjured."
